Frequently Asked Questions
When are the food restaurant tours?
Tours are on Saturdays and will begin at 2:00, 2:30 or 3:00 PM, depending on the tour location. Tours start promptly at the scheduled time, so it is best to arrive about 10 minutes prior to the tour.
Where is the event?
Lakewood, OH has over 50 independently owned restaurants featuring unique and delicious culinary creations, packed into 5 square miles. We have organized tours along the 2 primary business streets: Detroit Avenue and Madison Avenue. Lakewood is located 7 miles west of downtown Cleveland, OH, and is easily accessible off of I-90 via one of 3 exits.
What are my parking options?
The starting location will vary, depending on the location of the tour, but will always be listed on the reservation information, along with the parking options. Parking options may consist of street parking, municipal lots that are free on the week-ends, or parking in area business lots.
How much walking is involved?
For most tours we will be walking between 1-1.5 miles over the course of just under 3 hours. The walk will be broken up by approximately 6 restaurants and specialty food stops, and the pace will be relaxed. At most stops we will be seated for our tasting. So, you need to be able to walk at an easy pace. We recommend you wear comfortable walking shoes, and dress for the weather! In the event of rain, the tour will still carry on, and we will make umbrellas available should you need one.
Are any beverages served on the tour?
Water will always be made available at each stop. At some restaurants, craft beers, wine and/or cocktails, or specialty non-alcoholic beverages like smoothies will accompany the food tasting. The cost of the beverages is included in the cost of the ticket. For this reason, we recommended the tour for those over 21. Customers under 21 are welcome, but will not be served alcoholic beverages. Those that choose not to drink alcohol will still have a memorable experience on a Lakewood Dish Dash tour and will get their “money’s worth.” The focus of the tour is the FOOD!.
What about dietary restrictions?
At this time, many (but not all) of our restaurants are able to accommodate vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free restrictions. If you have restrictions, we recommend that you contact us at least 24 hours before the tour so we can make sure that all restaurants have time to prepare something to meet your needs. If you have a severe food allergy please contact us before purchasing a ticket. This may not be the best entertainment option for you!
Do I have to purchase tickets in advance?
Yes. Restaurants need to know how many people to set-up for and prepare food for in advance. We spend only about 20 minutes at each stop, so they try to have their specialty menu items ready for us when we arrive. We try to let them know a day in advance how many guests to expect. Reserve your spot on our “Book A Tour” page. That said, we sometimes have last minute cancellations, so contact us if you want to see if there is room on a tour on the day it is scheduled.
Are gift certificates available?
Yes. Gift Certificates are available by completing the form below. Lakewood Dish Dash tours make great gifts!
Does this tour have anything to offer a local?
Absolutely! Lakewood and Cleveland residents will enjoy and learn new things about their charming town and will also get a behind the scenes look at some local favorite restaurants. It is easy to get into a rut and always visit the same dining establishments. This is an opportunity to try a little bit of something at several places you may not have visited. Several of the restaurants featured have just opened in the past year and eager to help you understand why you should return! You will learn about their weekly specials as well such as Sunday brunches, ½ price bottle of wine nights, and the like!
Is it appropriate to tip our tour guide?
Yes. Your tour guides would welcome and appreciate gratuities if you are pleased with their service. As a guideline, the standard in the service industry is 15-20%. Financial arrangements with each of the food stops are made in advance between the tour organizers and the owners/managers of the restaurants. A portion of your ticket price is distributed to each restaurant. It is not expected that you will tip at each restaurant.
How much food is served on the tour?
Each tour has approximately 6 food and/or beverage tastings. For most people, enough food is served that they are not hungry for dinner afterwards.
